Samăy (formerly known as Raga Nova) is a collective of musicians exploring new ways of understanding and making music. Taking the traditional music of India as a base for constructing original arrangements and improvisation, and adding influences from various world folk styles, the musicians create a unique and distinctive sound. The stage is dressed with beautifully embroidered Gujarati sheets which the players, wearing traditional Indian costume, sit on during the performance. They were a big hit when they played in the Festival two years ago and they will undoubtedly be a highlight this year.

Special guest Carl Herring has composed a new piece especially for this concert.

This concert is supported by the Friends of the Swaledale Festival
