E42 11.00am | Meet at Reeth Green bus shelter - Friday 11 June SOLD OUT! « Previous      Next »

Guided by local archaeologist Tim Laurie, we leave Reeth towards Grinton, passing Romano-British settlements and two linear earthworks. Then uphill to Harkerside Moor where we see prehistoric field systems, settlements, burial cairns, a superb embanked stone circle and the burnt mounds which are now interpreted as Bronze Age sweathouses. We descend to Maiden Castle, a defended Iron Age settlement, and return to Reeth. Parts of this 5-6 mile walk are strenuous, but the pace will be relaxed and most of walk is on good footpaths. We finish at Reeth in time for those wanting to travel the short journey to Low Row for the 5.00pm event. No dogs, please.
