Borodin's lyrical 2nd Quartet (1881) contains his most famous theme, which appeared again in his score for the musical Kismet. Sandwiched by one of Mozart's finest quartets and Dvořák's ever-popular 'American' Quartet, this is chamber music of the highest order, played by one of the best young quartets to emerge for many a year.
