A chamber music feast beginning with Haydn and followed by two contrasting works for five string players, when cellist Kate Sawbridge joins our resident Quartet. Imogen Holst (1907-1984) was Artistic Director of the Aldeburgh Festival and musical assistant to Benjamin Britten. Her two-cello String Quintet, possibly her best composition, makes a fitting companion to Schubert’s masterpiece, arguably the most celebrated chamber work ever written.
