Kathryn Tickell and Peter Tickell Kathryn Tickell, Northumbrian pipes, fiddle, voice
Peter Tickell, fiddle, guitar

The world’s most widely acknowledged icon of Northumbrian music joins forces with her virtuosic younger brother for an electrifying evening. Their technical prowess is more than matched by the soul and depth of their interpretations. Whether they are playing little-known classics of a rural tradition or introducing their latest compositions, they perform with charm and absolute conviction.

Kathryn, the leading exponent of the Northumbrian pipes, has played with Sting, The Chieftains, The Penguin Café Orchestra, Evelyn Glennie, Andy Sheppard and many others. As a fiddler she learned in the traditional way, from first-hand interaction with old shepherd musicians from outlying hill farms. Peter was brought up to be equally adept at classical violin and traditional fiddle playing, and has won all the Northumbrian and Border fiddle competitions. In recent years he has also been making a powerful contribution on the guitar.

Tim Garland will add another dimension with his soaring soprano saxophone during the concert, which will be further enhanced by Kathryn’s inimitable introductions
"To say that Tickell plays the pipes is like saying that Shakespeare was a bit of a writer." Living Tradition
